How to stop panic attacks when driving

I’m a little embarrassed to admit this but I sometimes get panic attacks when driving. Any advice on how to stop this from happening?

There’s no shame in getting panic attacks while driving. Driving can be stressful and tends to make a lot of people anxious. Finding a safe distraction and keeping the temperature cool can be helpful.
Try these tips the next time you experience a panic attack when driving:
  • Try distracting yourself with music or a podcast. Make sure you don’t do anything that distracts you from safe driving though.
  • Engage your senses by eating candy, chewing gum, or sipping a cold drink
  • Keep it cool by turning on the air conditioner or rolling down a window
  • Take deep and slow breaths as panic can cause shortness of breath.
