How to register a car in Michigan?

I'm moving from Iowa to Michigan next month, and I'm going to be getting a new car. How would I go about registering my vehicle in Michigan?

Congrats on your move!
The best way to begin your new vehicle registration in Michigan is completing your application for a Michigan Vehicle Title (Form TR-11L) at a local DMV.
You will need to bring the following information when you apply:
  • Proof of ID (driver’s license, passport)
  • Proof of vehicle ownership (generally the car title)
  • Payment for applicable fees & taxes
When registering your vehicle in Michigan, you will also need to have proof of car insurance to show that you have the minimum insurance coverage required by the state.
