How to Program a 2012 Nissan Sentra Key Fob

I recently acquired a second key fob for my 2012 Nissan Sentra. Do I have to take it to the dealership, or can I program it myself?

It’s not always easy knowing what you can do at home, versus what you need help with—but when it comes to programming a key fob, you’re in luck! You can program your 2012
Nissan Sentra’s
remote keys on your own using the following steps. Before you start, be sure to have all key remotes handy to ensure they all work and none of them become inactive.
  • Get in your car and close and lock all doors and windows.
  • Insert your key into the car’s ignition, but don’t turn it.
  • Rapidly insert and remove the key from the ignition (still without turning it) at least six times in 10 seconds, or until your hazard lamps flash.
  • Insert the key again, this time turning it to the ACC position, then push the lock button on your key remote. This should cause your hazard lamps to flash.
Following this, your key remote should be successfully programmed! If you have any spare remotes, you’ll want to program them as well:
  • Unlock your car doors using the switch on the driver’s side panel, then immediately re-lock them
  • Within 5 seconds of locking and unlocking your doors, press the lock button on your spare key remote
  • Make sure your hazard lamps flash
You can repeat this process again until you’ve programmed all the remotes!
Now that you’re ready to roll in your Nissan, make sure you’ve got the coverage you need with
