Surprisingly, programming a key fob isn’t a big technical undertaking! You can accomplish it in just a couple of minutes at home, and all you’ll need is your car and your key remote.
For Honda Civics
made between 2006-2013, you’ll want to follow these steps for programming your key fob: Get in your car and close and lock all doors
Insert your key into the ignition
Turn the ignition to the “on” position (also marked as II in your vehicle)
Press the lock button on your key remote and hold for one second
Turn the ignition back off
Repeat this process two more times with the same remote, turning the ignition on and back off and holding the lock button for one second
Turn the ignition back on, then press the lock button on your remote once more. You should hear the door locks click, indicating your remote is successfully programmed
If you have more than one key remote, you’ll want to repeat the final step within 10 seconds of programming the head remote, to ensure all key fobs are connected to your vehicle. Additionally, if your key remote has a trunk release you’ll also want to press and hold this button for at least five seconds to program it.
