How to find out my car insurance details?

I haven’t looked at my car insurance details in forever, all I know is that I’m covered and the payments come out of my account every month. A friend told me that he’s been overpaying for his coverage and I’m wondering if I am too. How can I find out my car insurance details and know for sure?

Answer
Periodically looking at your car insurance is a great idea! There are a few different ways to find your insurance details.
  • Declaration page: Your declaration page contains all the details about your policy. It’s typically emailed or mailed to you at the start of your policy.
  • Online account or mobile app: Most car insurance companies have electronic documents, meaning you have online access to your policy details. Chances are, even if you can’t remember your login information, you’ll be able to get in if you can identify yourself either online or over the phone.
  • ID card: Check your car and glove compartment. Your insurance ID card will have your policy details on it as well.
Once you find your details, the best way to know if you’re overpaying on your insurance is by comparing quotes from other companies.
If you’d rather leave the hard work of gathering quotes to someone else, use Jerry. The Jerry app collects quotes from more than 50 top insurance companies, like Nationwide, Allstate, Safeco, Progressive, and Travelers, in seconds! They even help cancel your old policy once you’ve made your pick.
