How to find my car insurance policy number?

I'm adding my boyfriend to my car insurance. I need my policy number, but I'm not sure where to find it. How can I find my policy number?

You can find your
car insurance policy number
in several ways.
The first place you should check is your car for your ID cards or
policy declaration page
. As these are both valid proofs of insurance, they have to list your policy number on them. Typically, you find your policy number on the top of the ID card or page.
If you can’t find either of those, try your online account. Car insurance companies’ documents are mostly electronic now, so your online account should give you access to your policy documents and policy number.
Another option is calling your insurance company. If you give them your name and a few other pieces of personal information, they can pull up your policy information. If you call them, they’d be able to add your boyfriend to your policy as well.
