Water damage is a common reason your key fob battery could be draining—luckily, changing the key battery is a simple fix! All you need is a new CR2032, which you can buy right off the shelf, and a small screwdriver.
To change the key fob yourself, here’s what to do:
  • Start by removing the emergency key. On the back of your key fob, you’ll find a release button toward the bottom that you can press to eject the key
  • Pull the key out just slightly, and push it against the plastic casing until the key fob opens (if this doesn’t work, use your small screwdriver to remove the backplate)
  • Remove the old battery
  • Replace with your new CR2032 battery
  • Press the two halves of your key fob back together until they click into place
  • Reinsert the emergency key
And you’re done! Your key battery should be working good as new. If you’re looking to save elsewhere, consider saving with
