How to Change a 2013 Hyundai Elantra Headlight?

The bulb in the passenger-side headlight of my 2013 Hyundai Elantra recently burnt out, and I don’t have the time to bring it by the shop. I’m scared I’ll get ticketed driving around with it out—is it easy to change a Hyundai headlight at home?

Driving around with a headlight out is definitely a risk! The good news is, you can change your headlight at home in as little as an hour, with minimal tools, and save yourself the trip to the mechanic!
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • A pair of gloves
  • New headlight bulb
  • Socket wrench
  • 12 mm and 10 mm sockets
Before you begin, make sure your car is parked and off and that the keys are removed from the ignition. To start, pop your hood and follow these steps:
  • Remove the headlight bolts (there are three) using your 12 mm and 10 mm sockets
  • Unplug the headlight wire socket and attached electrical wires
  • Remove the headlight assembly by pulling it forward (but be mindful of your front bumper!)
  • Put on gloves before handling the new headlight bulb
  • Install the bulb and reattach the headlight assembly and wire socket
  • Tighten the headlight bolts
  • Close the hood
And you’re done! Overall, the process of changing your headlight bulb shouldn’t take you more than an hour.
