How soon can I make a claim after purchasing home insurance?
I'm in the process of getting a new homeowners policy. How soon can I file a claim on this policy?

You can file a claim immediately after the homeowners insurance becomes effective, as long as it’s due to an event that occurred after the policy came into effect. For example, if you have a fire in your home on January 15 and start a new homeowners policy on January 16, the fire is not going to be covered. Insurance companies will investigate claims thoroughly if they are made not long after a policy starts to avoid fraud.
