How reliable is a Chevy Sonic?

A friend of mine is selling his old car and I’ve been thinking about asking to buy it, but I want to be absolutely sure that it’s the right car for me first so I don’t have to back out. Is the Chevy Sonic a good car?

The
Chevy Sonic
has a decent reliability rating, even though it falls lower in the ranks when compared to other subcompact cars on the market. They can last for 200,000 miles or longer, so the mileage of your friend’s car will help you determine how reliable it will be for you.
Typically, newer cars are more reliable. If your friend’s Sonic is pretty new, it will last for much longer than a car that’s been around the block a few (thousand) times. The most common problems with older Chevy Sonics include:
  • Faulty electrical systems
  • Issues with the powertrain
  • Problems with the seats
If you know that your friend’s car isn’t facing these problems, it might be worth asking him about pricing!
