How old do you need to be to rent a car in Massachusetts?

I’m flying into Boston this summer for vacation and I’ve heard that Cape Cod is worth a visit, as well as the Berkshires. I just need to rent a car, although I’m worried I’m too young. What age do you need to be to rent a car in Massachusetts?

Boston is an amazing city, but the Berkshires and Cape Cod are awesome in their own right. If you want to visit all that the state has to offer, don’t stress—you only have to be 21 years old to rent a car in
Massachusetts
.
If you’re younger than 25, however, the car rental company may restrict what types of cars you rent and add a young driver surcharge. This protects them from perceived risk. Expect to budget a little bit more because of this charge.
You also don’t have to buy
rental car insurance
 if you already have a personal
car insurance
 policy. Your personal insurance should cover the rental car without any issues.
