How old do you have to be to rent a car in Missouri?

I’m planning a fall trip to Kansas City with my friends, but we’re all under 25 and I’m worried we won’t be able to rent a car once we land. What’s the minimum age to rent a car?

You only have to be 21 years old to rent a car in
Missouri
.
In fact, 21 is the age minimum in most states across the U.S.—and some states, like
Michigan
and
New York
only require you to be 18 years old.
That said, most rental companies will place a young renter surcharge fee on all renters under the age of 25. Depending on the company, these surcharge fees can cost as much as $50 extra per day. This may be why the “25 to rent” myth has persisted so long—no one wants to pay those extra fees!
Assuming you and your friends are at least over 21, you shouldn’t have any issues renting a car for your Missouri trip—it’ll just cost you more than someone who’s over 25.
