How often should the timing belt be replaced on an Audi A4?

My uncle restores old cars as a hobby, and he always talks about checking the timing belt on the old engines. I drive a modern A4; is this something I should check? How often should the timing belt be replaced on an Audi A4?

tricks of the trade
from friends and family who work on cars. As you can imagine, car technology has come a long way in the past 100 years, so the typical upkeep needed for modern-day vehicles can be very different from the classics your uncle works on.
Audi
recommends that you should schedule a service on your timing belt every 75,000-100,000 miles. The timing belt may not need to be replaced on an Audi A4 until late in its lifespan (or, in many cases, not at all).
The timing belt connects the crankshaft and camshaft—two critical components in your car’s engine—and keeps them synchronized. The belt normally is smooth on one side and ‘toothed’ on the other, and these teeth grip the crankshaft and camshaft gears to keep them running at the same speed.
