How often should I check my tire pressure?

I recently took my car to the mechanic for a wheel issue and they told me that one of my tires was overinflated. They recommended I start checking my tire pressure regularly, but they didn’t specify how often—so how often should I be checking my tire pressure?

Great question! The recommendation is to check your tire pressure—that means all four tires and any spares—at least once a month, using the same tire gauge every time.
Regularly checking your tire pressure in this manner makes it easier to keep your tires properly inflated and helps ensure they do not receive any irregular or uneven wear, giving them a longer lifespan.
When checking your tire pressure, make sure your car has been parked for several hours and verify that the tires are cold. Tire pressure can vary 1 - 2 pounds per square inch with each 10℉ difference in temperature.
Get into the habit of checking your tire pressure once a month. You’ll be better prepared to recognize temperature-related changes in your tire pressure and adjust accordingly, ensuring proper inflation year-round.
