How often should car tires be rotated?

Do you really need to rotate your tires? I thought tires rotated enough when you drove! I only recently learned tire rotations were part of regular maintenance. How often should I be doing it?

“It may sound a little weird, but rotating your tires is an important part of
basic car maintenance
. How often you should rotate your tires will depend on your driving habits.
Generally speaking, tires should be rotated every 6,000 to 8,000 miles, or approximately every six months. To find out what’s best for your specific vehicle, consult your owner’s manual.
When you get your tires rotated, each wheel will be removed from your car and moved to a different position. If you fail to have this done, your tire treads will wear unevenly and you’ll risk the possibility of a
flat
or a blowout.
