How often should a car air filter be replaced?

I keep smelling a weird gasoline-like odor every time I turn my car on. I think it might be an issue with my air filter. I don’t think I’ve ever changed it to be honest. When should you replace a car air filter?

Typically, your car’s air filter should be replaced every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Your owner’s manual will provide more specific instructions, but this is a good rule of thumb.
If you don’t get your air filter changed, it will eventually get clogged and your engine will not get enough air. This can result in serious damage to your engine—or may even amount to you getting stuck on the side of the road with a dead vehicle.
Changing your air filter should be easy and cheap enough. And protecting yourself from unforeseen car issues can be inexpensive, too! Consider getting a roadside assistance membership with Jerry.
