How often do cops show up for traffic court?

I recently received a citation for speeding, but I was only going 9 mph over. I think this was poor judgment on the part of the cop, especially because other cars were passing me. A friend told me that if the cop doesn’t show up for the hearing, the ticket gets dismissed. How often do cops fail to show up for traffic court?

Getting a
traffic ticket
for only going 9 mph is definitely bad luck, but you still were speeding. You should generally expect cops to show up for traffic court, as it’s their duty and job to do so.
Keep in mind: Whether the police officer does show up to the hearing or not, it’s a good idea for you to be present if you want to fight your ticket, because it’s possible the penalty may still be reduced in your favor.
Pro tip: If you want the best shot at fighting your speeding ticket, a better approach is to hire a lawyer. Traffic lawyers are well-versed in fighting these types of tickets, so for a few hundred bucks, you might be able to plead to a lesser charge.
The chances of this happening can improve drastically if it’s your first offense, so you might use that to your advantage.
