How much torque do electric cars have?
Like everyone else, I want a Tesla. I’ve actually been told that electric cars can be much faster than gas-powered cars. Is that true? How is this possible? Do electric cars have more torque?

have an excellent private charging network, but they also offer innovative technology and use over-the-air software to update self-driving features regularly. And you’re right, electric cars have the ability to accelerate much faster than cars powered by gas.
Here’s what we know about how much torque electric cars have:
- Torque is what drives your vehicle forward, and with an electric current, electric cars generate much more torque than cars with internal combustion engines.
- Since the electric motor inside your EV isn’t accompanied by a transmission, it doesn’t need to take on any extra power. And that’s why EVs have instant torque and quickly ramp up to 60 mph in a flash.
- ATesla Model 3Long Range has 389 lb-ft of torque and can accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds. TheTesla Model Yperformance has 471 lb-ft of torque and takes 3.5 seconds to hit 60 mph.
- The best-selling 2022 Nissan Leaf S Hatchback offers 236 lb-ft of torque, while the Chevy Bolt EV has 266 lb-ft of torque. And the 2021 Mini Electric Hardtop 2 Door features 199 lb-ft of torque.
