How much oil should there be on the dipstick?
I went to a lube station the other day to have my oil topped up, but I think the mechanic may have overfilled the crankcase. How much oil should there be on the dipstick and how much is considered too much oil?

While fresh oil is essential for your engine’s smooth functioning, having too much of it can damage your vehicle.
The best way to evaluate whether your engine has too much oil is to check the dipstick’s high and low oil indication marks.
If the excess oil is sitting 1-2 millimeters above the fill line, there is no cause for concern. However, if there is more than a quart of excess oil, you should remove it as soon as possible to avoid costly damages.
To remove the excess oil, you can siphon it from the dipstick or have an oil change completed at your local auto dealership.
