How much is the cost to cancel car insurance early?
I’m not very happy with the customer service or the price of my current car insurance, and I really just want out. I assume there’s a fee to cancel my policy early-—how much would it be to cancel my car insurance before the end of my policy?

I’m sorry to hear that you’re so unsatisfied with your current policy; I know how frustrating that can be. Whether or not your company will charge a fee for early cancellation depends on their policy, but if your provider does charge, it will likely cost somewhere between $25 and 10% of your remaining premium to cancel your car insurance early. Most companies make switching insurance providers pretty straightforward, but some may require some attention to detail.
With some insurance companies, you may need to mail, fax, or email a quick letter stating that you want to cancel and the effective date of your cancellation. Since it sounds like you intend to find a provider that works better for your needs, you’ll want to be sure that you set your new policy to begin the same day that your previous policy ends. This will ensure that you are never driving uninsured.
In a lot of cases, you can simply call and cancel your policy with your agent, and depending on your insurer, a phone call may be all that is necessary. Be sure to ask your agent for details of the cancellation process, and have them send over any cancellation documents that need to be signed.
