How much is it to add someone to my car insurance?

I’m married and my in-laws are moving in with us. We want to add them to our policy, so they can use our car when they want. How much would this be?

“That’s a big change–I hope it goes well! Anyone who lives in your home and has access to your vehicle must be a driver on your policy, so it’s good you’re planning to add your in-laws to your car insurance.
The cost to add additional drivers to your
car insurance
varies. Many factors go into car insurance rates, including:
  • Age
  • Driving record
  • Claims history
  • Location
In some cases, if your in-laws have
clean driving records
, but you don’t, adding them to your policy could decrease your rate. The same applies if they don’t have a clean record, but you do; adding them may increase your rate.
Since you’d like to know exactly how much it’ll cost to add them, reach out to your car insurance company. They can give you a quote on the cost to add your in-laws.
Additionally, anytime you want to make changes to your car insurance, it’s a great time to get quotes and shop around. You could find a more affordable rate with another company, even with your in-laws on your policy.
