I'm going to be sharing my car with my friend for a while. I’d like to add them as a named driver on my insurance policy. How much is this going to be?

to your insurance policy, you are accepting financial responsibility for them in the event of an accident with your car. The cost to add your friend depends on risk. If your friend is a teenager or doesn’t have a

, it may cost more to add them. If this is a temporary situation and your friend is maintaining their own insurance, it is usually free to add them as a driver to your policy.
To add them and determine the exact cost, you’ll need to give your insurance company your friend’s:
- Driver’s license number
- Date of birth
- Current address
- Past driving activity such as moving violations or accidents
