A professional, Stage 1 tune for your
Honda Civic SI
will run you between $300 to $700, depending on your goals. Another option you might consider (if available for your SI year and trim) would be to install what is called a performance chip. You can find these for as little as $80, but you won’t get the same results as from a professional tuning.
A Stage 1 tune involves the reprogramming of your SI’s engine management system. In addition, the mechanic may tweak your exhaust to get more power.
Once you have a base tuning completed, you can proceed to a Stage 2 tune. Most often it is at Stage 2 that the mechanic will focus on your SI’s exhaust and air intake system.
In a Stage 3 and higher tune, the mechanic will analyze other systems in your SI to make sure they are operating optimally. For example, your suspension or brakes may need to be modified now that your engine has more horsepower.
Is all this worth the cost? Of course, it depends upon your situation, but the Civic SI is known for being a first-rate performance car, so it may well be worth the investment!
