How much is a ticket for driving in the HOV lane?

When I’m on my way to work, I always find that the HOV lane is almost empty. I’m tempted to hop in it to avoid traffic, but I also don’t want to get a ticket. How much is the fine if I’m caught driving in the HOV lane with no other passengers?

The high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane is great if you’re carpooling. But resist the urge to use it when you’re driving solo!
A
ticket
for driving in the HOV lane will range from $100 to $400 depending on the city and state that you’re in. So if you want to drive in the HOV lane, use it as a golden opportunity to get to know a coworker! When carpooling, you won’t have to worry about getting a ticket or fine.
As a commuter, it’s important to protect yourself with great car insurance. But you don’t need to overpay.
