How much is a home charging station for electric cars?

I’ve been thinking about going electric for my next car, but I’m worried that in addition to the higher price tag, additional costs like installing a home charging station will start to add up. How much is a home charging station for an electric car?

First of all, congrats on shopping around for your first
electric car
. Most EVs come equipped with a Level 1 charger, which will allow you to charge your car with a standard 120-volt home outlet. If you’d like to charge up a little faster, however, you’ll want to invest in a Level 2 charger.
Costs for the level-2 charger and installation will vary, but on average you’ll probably spend about $1,200 for a 240-volt outlet, charger, and a wall-mounted system. The full gamut of the pricing can run anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
