How much is a hail-damaged car worth?

A giant hail storm passed over last night and it severely damaged my car. I was thinking about getting a new car anyway, so it’s not a huge deal. But how much is a car worth if it has some hail damage?

Sorry to hear about your car! Hail storms can cause severe damage to homes, cars, and just about anything else in its path. As far as the value of your car, hail damage costs about $3,000 to properly fix in severe cases**. So if you were to
sell your car
, you would have to take that amount of the asking price.
However, you can also fix the car on your own and ask for the
Kelley Blue Book
value. Moreover, your insurance may cover the cost of the damage, but only if you have
comprehensive coverage
.
If you have comprehensive coverage, hail damage is typically covered. Just pay the deductible, and you should get your car back as good as new. This is probably the best-case scenario as far as maximizing the retail value of your car, so you should file a claim if you want to get a bigger payday.
If you don’t have comprehensive coverage currently, you may want to add it to your policy in the future. Either call your provider to add it or search for quotes from insurers using the Jerry app. As a licensed broker,
