The only thing that really matters is that if your house was destroyed, you’d get enough money from the insurance company to completely rebuild or pay off the remainder of your mortgage.
If you have this amount of coverage, you should be fine. You may want to add more coverage if it will make you feel more comfortable, just like adding
comprehensive coverage
to your car insurance can put your mind at ease.
Many insurance companies offer additional coverage anywhere from 10% to 50% of your home’s value.
You may also want to consider getting an umbrella policy. Umbrella policies add additional coverage up to $1,000,000 for your assets.
