How much does it cost to replace drive shaft u joints?

So my mechanic told me that I need to have something called a drive shaft U joint replaced today. He quoted me a price of $200. I don’t know anything about cars so I just want to make sure he’s not ripping me off or anything. How much does replacing a U joint usually cost?

Great question! The average cost to replace a drive shaft u-joint is $240-$290 for parts and labor.
It’s unfortunate but there are more than a few mechanics out there who will take advantage of people when they can. So, it’s always good to double-check the prices they quote you. In this particular situation, it doesn’t seem like you have anything to worry about. In fact, it sounds like he’s giving you quite a good deal!
