How much does it cost to replace a Toyota Prius battery?

Does it cost a lot to replace a Toyota Prius battery? I'm leasing a Prius, and it really needs a new battery. But I read that it's pretty expensive to replace and I'm worried I won't be able to afford it.

It can cost between $2,200 and $4,100 to replace a Toyota Prius battery.
Battery replacements
for hybrids and electric cars usually cost more than batteries for gas-powered vehicles—and the Prius battery is no exception.
  • New: ~$2,200 to $4,100
  • Used: ~$1,500
When you’re breaking down the price, keep in mind that a used Prius
hybrid battery
can save you a little cash. But once you factor in labor costs and additional fees from your
mechanic
, you’ll be looking at a much higher bill.
To keep the price as low as possible:
  • Shop around for batteries: The first battery you find will probably not be your cheapest option.
  • Gather estimates from mechanics: Prius tend to require specialized work, but each mechanic will bill labor differently. You may be able to find a better deal at a different shop.
  • Consider upgrading to a new model: You’ll need to pay the difference between the value of the new Prius and your old one, but a new Prius with a new battery can
    run for years
    without any issues.
