How much does it cost to add someone to car insurance?

I want to add my son onto my car insurance policy, but I'm not sure about the costs. How much would it cost to add someone onto a car insurance policy?

The cost to add someone to your
car insurance
policy will depend on their age and driving history. If your son is young and relatively inexperienced, you can expect your rates to increase. If you’re adding an older driver with a history of safe driving, you might even see your rates decrease!
The average costs for adding different age groups to an insurance policy are listed below:
A 30-year-old driver on their own policy pays an average of $817 for six months, adjusted to:
  • $2001 with a teen driver added
  • $924 with a driver of similar age
  • $1003 with a 50-year-old driver
A 50-year-old policyholder pays an average of $850 for six months, adjusted to:
  • $2259 for a policy with a teen driver added
  • $954 with a 30-year-old driver
  • $939 with a driver around the same age
