How much does car towing cost?

My car overheated, so I had to call a tow truck. How much is it going to cost me?

I’m sorry to hear your car had to be towed. The cost will really depend on a number of factors, but many companies charge a baseline hook-up fee of about $50 and then charge extra depending on the distance. Total towing costs tend to average a little over $100.
Your towing fee will depend on:
  • The tow company’s rates
  • Your vehicle
  • The number of miles over which your car needs to be towed
  • The time of the towing (nights, weekends, or holidays may be more expensive)
  • The difficulty of the terrain
If you have a
roadside assistance
membership, these fees might already be covered.
Jerry
offers customers a modern roadside assistance membership, including benefits like towing, lockout service, and a mechanics hotline. Along with traditional benefits, you get Uber-like tracking for the status of your service and the ability to contact your service provider directly for as low as $4.16 a month.
