How much does a Smart Car electric battery upgrade cost?

I’ve had my electric Smart Car for a couple of years now, and while it works fine, I’m thinking of getting the battery upgraded. What does a Smart Car electric battery upgrade cost?

Smart Car
electric battery upgrades are exorbitantly expensive. For the part alone, you could pay upwards of $18,500.
Why does it cost an arm and a leg to replace your Smart Car electric battery? Rarity is the main factor. 2017 is the last model year of Smart Car sold in the US, making replacement parts difficult to come by on this side of the Atlantic.
Hybrid batteries are pricey enough for more popular US electric vehicles like
Tesla Model Y
and the
Chevrolet Bolt
($11,000 to $13,000 and about $15,000, respectively), so adding in extra costs of tracking down and shipping in the equation only makes it more expensive.
If the electric battery for your Smart Car is on the fritz and it’s no longer under warranty, at that point, it probably makes more financial sense to just buy a new (or new to you) vehicle. There are
plenty of affordable electric options
on the market nowadays! Or, if smaller cars are more your speed, you may like the 2023
MINI Cooper SE
all-electric hatchback.
