Congrats on your new EV! The cost of charger installation has a few components and can vary depending on your region, and installation company. The average overall cost of installation is about $1,200.
EV charger installation fees typically involve more than just the charger itself. The total cost will often include any extra electrical parts needed, the electrician’s labor fees, and the cost of a permit. The prices for each of these individual components will vary depending on the location.
While it is possible to find cheap Level 2 EV chargers online, we would advise you to purchase one that is safety certified and tested. There is a significant amount of voltage being carried so any failures of parts may result in serious harm to you and your vehicle.
Most residential areas will require you to obtain a permit to install an at-home charger. Additionally, since many electrical panels aren’t built to charge cars with 240v, an electrician may need to upgrade your electrical panel which may add some extra costs.
If you don’t want to pay the extra to install a charger at home, you can still use the Level 1 charger when needed, and fill it up at an electric-fuel station near your house.
