Uber Black drivers generally earn double the hourly rate of an UberX driver, but how much Uber Black drivers make in Washington D.C. depends on a handful of factors.
The hourly rate of an UberBlack driver could start at $25 or more depending on when and where you’re driving. The overall salary, however, may not differ as much. That’s because Uber Black costs more per ride than other Uber options, so they tend to get fewer trips than the average Uber.
That being said, an Uber Black driver can make the same amount as an UberX driver in less time and with less effort—especially in a city like Washington D.C. After all, the wealthy movers and shakers of our country are more likely to pay more for that extra comfort and panache.
That’s far from guaranteed, though, and it’s probably a better option for drivers who prefer part-time work to driving full-time.
You can also boost your earnings by optimizing your customer service skills. The folks paying for Uber Black services are likely to expect a more professional chauffeur-like driver than your average UberX driver. You’ll want to polish your skills (and your car!), present yourself well, and offer top-notch service—which could earn you some sweet tips.
Here’s the bottom line: if you already have a luxury car and you want to maximize your earnings, signing up to be an Uber Black driver may be a good move for you. If you’re thinking of purchasing a luxury car just to make more money as a rideshare driver, though, it’s probably not worth it.
