How much do electric cars pollute?

I was stuck in traffic downtown the other day and there were a lot of cars just sitting and running. It was cold enough that I could see all the exhaust pipes filling up the air with junk. There has to be a better way! How much do electric cars pollute?

Traffic jams are the worst, especially when you can see pollution firsthand. Electric vehicles themselves—specifically battery-powered EVs—don’t have any emissions. Plug-in Hybrids still produce emissions but at a significantly lower rate than traditional cars.
While the electric vehicles themselves don’t produce emissions as traditional cars do, the power plant that generates electricity may be a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. A study by the US Energy Information and Administration showed that in 2021, 60.8% of the total US energy generation was from burning fossil fuels. A region with a lot of electric cars that still generate electricity with coal, will not have a significant reduction in overall greenhouse gas emissions.
The issue with fossil fuels and energy is that they are still so popular that they are either used in manufacturing or the indirect or direct refueling of vehicles.
