Congrats on the purchase of your first car! It can be very overwhelming to figure out what car insurance you need, so here’s a breakdown of what to consider.
Most states require a minimum liability insurance to legally drive your car. This differs by state, so be sure to check the requirements in your home state.
Keep in mind that liability insurance doesn’t cover you or your vehicle, so it’s a good idea to invest in some more coverage. For example, collision insurance will cover you and your car in an at-fault accident, and
comprehensive coverage
protects you from damage sustained in a non-collision event. Insurance can be expensive, and all the additions can add up. However, fixing your vehicle after an accident can be hugely expensive, and having the proper insurance will mitigate this risk.
