How much can I expect to pay for car insurance as a 16-year-old in California?

I'm getting my license pretty soon in California, and I'm 16 years old. My parents will add me to their policy, but only if I can find cheap insurance. No one will give me a quote because I don't have my license yet, but how much should I expect to pay?

“It’s pretty common that a company won’t give you a quote without your license, so don’t stress about that.
Not to discourage or alarm you, but your
car insurance
is going to be relatively expensive regardless of where you get it. Added to your parents’ policy and with liability coverage only, you can realistically expect to pay about $2,900 a year in California, or about $240 per month.
Because of the high cost of the insurance, you should shop around and compare quotes—and that’s assuming your parents are keen to switch their car insurance.
If they’re not, you may just have to go with whatever rate your parents’ current insurer gives you. Don’t forget to ask about multi-car and good student discounts to save some extra cash.
