How much are toll roads in Illinois?

My husband and I are moving to the Chicago suburbs, and we’ll both commute to work in the city. I don’t really want to take the train if I can avoid it, but I will if tolls are too expensive. What are the prices of toll roads in Illinois?

The toll roads in Illinois range in price from $0.20 to $3.80, depending on whether you pay by plate or decide to get the I-Pass.
The I-Pass is a transponder that you can refill online and mount inside your windshield. It costs $30 and requires a $10 deposit, but the I-Pass gives you a 50% discount on all tolls—so it might be worth it.
The price for tolls doubles if you use the pay-by-plate method or receive your toll invoice in the mail.
Here are the ranges of tolls depending on which road you take:
  • Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88): $0.30 to $1.80 with I-Pass; $0.60 to $3.60 with pay by plate
  • Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80): $0.30 to $1.40 with I-Pass; $0.60 to $2.80 with pay by plate
  • Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90): $0.30 to $1.50 with I-Pass; $0.60 to $3 with pay by plate
  • Illinois Route 390: $0.20 to $0.60 with I-Pass; $0.40 to $1.20 with pay by plate
  • Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355): $0.45 to $1.90 with I-Pass; $0.90 to $3.80 with pay by plate
