How many times can an electric car battery be recharged?
I’ve seen estimates that for other technology like smartphones that use lithium-ion batteries, the batteries can only handle about 500 charges before they start to deplete. Is the same true for the batteries in electric cars?

use the same type of batteries as the ones in your phone or other rechargeable devices, the charging cycle is not quite the same, meaning they’re built to last for much longer. Electric car batteries have various protections in place that allow them to have a lifespan of 10-20 years including internal thermal management systems. You can also help extend the life of your car’s battery by following some charging best practices including:
- Not charging every night
- Charge between the 20 and 80 percent range
- When parked at home, try to keep your car somewhere it won’t be exposed to extreme temperatures
- If you plan on parking your car for long-term storage, don’t leave it with an empty battery
