How many Scion FR-S were made?
I’m pretty nostalgic for a sports car my dad had a couple of years ago: the original Scion FR-S. I’m trying to find one from before it was rebranded to the Toyota 86, but I’m having trouble. How many original Scion FR-S were made?

The original
Scion FR-S
isn’t exactly a rare car, although it may be harder to find than your average Corolla or Camry.Around 61,770 Scion FR-S were made from 2012 to 2016 before the sports car was rebranded as the
Toyota 86
. Since the rebranding, Toyota has reduced production —only about 18,000 were made from 2017 to 2022. Although they may be easier to find on a car lot, the 86 is actually much rarer than the original FR-S.Here’s how the Scion FR-S production numbers break down by model year:
- 2012: 11,417 units
- 2013: 18,327 units
- 2014: 14,062 units
- 2015: 10,507 units
- 2016: 7,457 units
That doesn’t make the Scion FR-S as rare as some other performance vehicles, so you may be able to find a used one for relatively cheap. However, you’re likely to get more expensive [car insurance] quotes anytime you decide to
buy a sports car
