I’m worried about taking my driving test for the first time. I know I have the skills, but I’m not a great test-taker. Just out of curiosity, how many people fail their driving test the first time they take it?

If you feel anxious before a test, you certainly aren’t alone! Maybe that’s why around 50% of people fail their driving test the first time. Moreover, up to 40% of people fail their written test the first time they attempt it.
While these statistics have been widely studied, the causes of these failures aren’t quite clear. Some possible reasons are:
- Lack of preparation
- Overconfidence
- Test anxiety
- Automatic fails, such as failing to put on your seat belt or rolling through a stop sign
If you want to avoid becoming just another statistic, follow a few of these helpful tips:
- Study but don’t burn yourself out
- Take a deep breath
- Eat a healthy meal before your test
- Meditate
- Get enough sleep the night before
