How many Jeep SRT8s were made?
My girlfriend just purchased a used Jeep SRT8 and I’m not really familiar with the vehicle. Was it a rare SUV by the brand? How many of them were made?

Jeep SRT8s
were made for the 2006 model year. It’s unclear exactly how many models were made and sold in the following years, but the 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 model years remained popular. Grand Cherokee
enthusiasts were incredibly excited for the SRT8 trim level, thanks to its grand 30-second appearance on the Live with Regis and Kelly show in 2005. Production for the SRT8 began in November of that same year, with the base model selling for $39,995 MSRP.The SRT8 sold out incredibly quickly, making the SUV the SRT model in the highest demand. Equipped with a 6.1-liter HEMI V8, the 2005 Grand Cherokee SRT8 generated 420 horsepower and zipped from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds—something nearly unheard of for such a large vehicle. Large Brembo brakes, a tuned suspension, custom 20-inch wheels, and a long list of additional specialized touches increased the Grand Cherokee SRT8’s unique appeal.
Despite a loyal following, the SRT8 was forced to skip a model year as it was desperately in need of a facelift. It reappeared in 2012—completely revamped—as the most expensive and most luxurious trim for the Grand Cherokee. Jeep released two special edition models of the SRT8 that year: the Alpine (bright white exterior paint), and the Vapor (Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat exterior paint).
In 2014, Jeep changed the name of this vehicle to simply the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT.
