How many hours of driving are required before you can get a license in CT?

I just got my CT learner’s permit, and I’m so excited! I can’t wait to finally be able to drive on my own. How much driving practice is required before you can get your driver’s license in Connecticut?

Getting your license is a big step and something to be proud of! Once you have a
Connecticut
learner’s permit, 40 hours of driving practice are required before you can apply for a full license in CT.
Connecticut requires that all drivers holding a learner’s permit fulfill 40 hours of behind-the-wheel practice driving by combining any commercial, secondary school, or parent instruction.
Any of the following can be combined to meet the requirements:
  • 30 hours of classroom driving training at a commercial driving school + 2 hours of parent training
  • 30 hours of classroom driving training at your high school + 2 hours of parent training
  • 22 hours of classroom-type training at home + 8 hours of the Safe Driving Practices class at a commercial driving school or high school + 2 hours of parent training
Upon successful completion of the training course, a driver education certificate (CS-1 form) will be issued and sent to your local DMV.
Once you’ve completed the required amount of hours driving, you’ll want to make sure you’re ready to go on your car insurance. As a new driver, car insurance premiums can be through the roof. But with
