A close family member is moving 400 miles away and I would love to go visit them soon. How long will it take me to drive there?

A close family member moving away is always hard, but it’s great that you’ll be able to visit them! Long
road trips
are always fun, but it’s nice to know how long you’re going to be on the road for before you head out.
Your driving speed and stop frequency are going to be the two biggest indicators of how long it will take you to drive 400 miles. Slower speeds and more stops are going to increase your driving time, but going faster isn’t necessarily safer.
Here are some examples of how long it would take you to drive 400 miles at different speeds:
  • At 50 mph: 8 hours
  • At 55 mph: 7 hours and 16 minutes
  • At 65 mph: 6 hours and 9 minutes
  • At 70 mph: 5 hours and 43 minutes
  • At 80 mph: 5 hours
