How many Ford GT 40s were made?

I’ve been researching classic race cars, and I’m really intrigued by all the hype surrounding the Ford GT40. This is a super rare set of wheels, yeah? How many Ford GT40s were made?

The Ford GT40 is certainly iconic (and extremely rare) as far as race car history is concerned.
Though the definition of a “genuine” Ford GT40 varies, it’s generally believed that only 107 Ford GT40s were made. As you might expect, this has given a lot of value to the Ford GT40s that are out there—depending on the year and the model’s race history, an original GT40 can cost as much as ten million dollars.
Here are some other fun facts about this classic race car for you to chew on:
  • The rarest GT40 is the MKIII road car—only seven vehicles were made
  • The “40” actually represents the 40-inch height of the GT40—measuring from the top of the windshield
  • The original Ford GT40 was commissioned for the Le Mans race against Ferrari—with the GT40 MKII historically claiming first, second, and third in 1966
While the majority of us won’t get nearer than a documentary or the Ford v Ferrari movie to this noteworthy race car, you can still visit Ken Miles’ Ford GT40 on display at the Shelby Heritage Center in
Las Vegas, NV
