How many fatalities have been due to self-driving vehicles?

I was thinking about getting a new car that has a self-driving feature. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this feature, but it makes me really nervous to hand my car over to a computer. How many fatalities have happened as a result of self-driving cars?

Self-driving cars are new to the automobile industry, so it’s understandable that you’re nervous to let a computer drive your car! While there are a few self-driving cars currently operating autonomously on U.S. roads, they aren’t exempt from accidents.
To date, there have only been five fatalities from self-driving cars—three involving a Tesla and one involving an Uber. However, there are frequent
car accidents
involving self-driving cars. Stats estimate that per million miles driven, there are 9.1 self-driving car accidents, whereas there are only 4.1 crashes per million miles driven with human-operated vehicles.
Self-driving vehicles may be concerning, but you shouldn’t have to be concerned about paying sky-high insurance rates for your car.
