How many electric cars currently being driven were made between 2000 to 2018?

I know that there aren’t a lot of EVs on the roadways right now, from reading some of your older answers to people’s questions. But how many of the electric cars that are currently being driven are from 2000-2018? It seems like most EVs that I see are only a year or two old.

Unfortunately, there’s no real answer to your question, other than for us to estimate, based on the number of vehicles sold per year. In 2021, nearly 2 million electric cars were sold in the U.S., compared to a little over 1 million from the year before. But before then, electric car sales were abysmal. Therefore, one of the reasons why you don’t see many older electric vehicles on the road is because there weren’t many that were being sold. Fortunately, thanks to an increase in charging ports and infrastructure bills that have expanded on our capability and readiness to support EVs, driver mindsets are changing.
The future of electric vehicles seems even more promising, though. Some experts predict that as soon as 2023, EV sales will comprise the majority of new car sales in most developed nations. Thanks to expanding battery ranges and price tag drops (although new cars are still generally more expensive), EVs are becoming a more realistic option for everyday drivers.
