How many electric cars are in the U.S.?
I keep hearing the back-and-forth about EV infrastructure and EV buying, and I figured a solution was pretty far off. Now I’m seeing more and more EV charging stations and I’m wondering—how many EVs are in the U.S. right now?

With all the new developments happening with electric vehicles (EVs), it can be really hard to keep track of where everything stands. With numbers on the rise, over 2 million electric cars have been sold and are owned in the U.S.
Currently, less than 3% of new cars sold in the U.S. are EVs. However, 2022 should see the largest bump in EV variety ever seen. At least 30 brand-new EV models will be on the market by the end of this year, a number which more than doubles the number of models currently available.
In 2021, EV sales jumped up to a solid 3% of all new cars sales, and hybrids managed to take up 5% of new sales. Despite that lift, there’s a long way to go. The U.S. has an ambitious goal to make EVs take up 50% of new car sales by 2030.
