There’s no exact data that confirms how many
electric car batteries
are reused in windmills, because the idea of recycling them to store excess wind and solar energy is an emerging concept. It’s yet to be enacted on a large scale, but the logic behind reusing EV batteries for renewable energy storage is somewhat simple. Even though an electric car battery may no longer benefit a driver once it reaches 80% charging potential (charging potential lowers as the battery ages), it can still be used to store other forms of energy, once removed from the EV. Finding a way to recycle electric car batteries so that they can be used in windmills or in solar plant facilities is important, especially if such a program could be enacted on a large scale. EV batteries contain a plethora of heavy metals that if leaked into groundwater or farming communities, could kill or injure a large number of people for many years.
