How many cylinders does a Toyota Yaris have?

So my boss teases me about my 2020 Yaris—he calls it a “street-legal Little Tikes Cozy Coupe”. He tells clients my car has just one cylinder, and that I accelerate with my feet like Fred Flintsone. I’m up for joking around as much as the next guy, but it does get to be a bit much. Anyways, I know nothing about my car other than it’s affordable. I’m sure someone will eventually ask, and I’d love to know the answer—how many cylinders does a Toyota Yaris have?

A Toyota Yaris has not one but four cylinders in its four-cylinder engine.
Here are some stone cold cylinder facts to counter that hilarious boss of yours.
Your
Toyota Yaris
(and all 2020 models, the last year of the Yaris’ production run) has a 1.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine with 106 horsepower. Can the Flintstone family’s foot-powered car with boulders for wheels get from 0 to 60 in 8.2 seconds? No way.
Now, the Yaris might not be the most powerful vehicle with its four cylinder engine, but that’s no surprise as the more cylinders an engine has, the more powerful it is. So an in-line-six cylinder engine, a V6, a V8 engine, etc., will have more power than a four-cylinder, but they’ll consume more gas at a faster pace than your Yaris.
Another tidbit to impress your current-day Mr. Slate—a cylinder is an enclosed metallic chamber where fuel is combusted in order to generate power. This results in your engine’s pistons moving up-and-down, thus producing power to move your vehicle.
So the next time your boss starts talking smack about your Yaris, take pride in your ride and set the record straight. And for the record—your Yaris will definitely outrun a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe. Well, we’re pretty sure it will.
